If you’re like me, packing for a trip can be riddled with anxiety. I want to be sure to pack everything I need. The last thing I want to do is get to my destination only to find out I forgot to pack that simplest, but most essential item (can we say…toothbrush!). But, forgetting one or more essentials when packing is all too common for everyone but the most experienced traveler.
Here are 7 commonly “forgotten” items travelers fail to pack when traveling. Have you forgotten one or more of them yourself?
Passports/IDs
Sadly, in this post 9-11 era, we all have to have IDs when travelling. The last thing you want to do is try to get through airport security by arguing with a TSA agent because you forgot a photo ID. And, hotels even ask for it when checking in. They are both just doing their job, after all. And, it’s our job to bring passports/IDs with us when traveling.
So, the next time you travel - secure your documents and always double check for them before leaving the house.
Underwear
Laugh if you will, but this very necessary piece of attire is commonly forgotten when packing. Forget about buying it when you arrive at your destination. Who wants to try shopping for underwear at 10PM in an unfamiliar city?
Slippers
You can use slippers either in your hotel room (never walk on that carpet barefooted!) or at the beach. And, they can be perfect for that sauna or at the pool. Forgetting this item is not a deal breaker, as you can usually buy slippers locally without much hassle.
Charger
Who doesn’t travel today without computers, iPads, Kindles, and cell phones. Packing them quickly becomes pointless if you left your charger at home. The choices then amount to borrowing a charger from other people or buying another at the hotel.
Cell phone
It’s hard to imagine our lives BC (before cell phones). The convenience of having one while traveling is readily apparent. It can help you find/connect with destinations and provides a lifeline for emergency situations. Forgetting to pack a cell phone can bring on instant heartburn.
Glasses
While some people don’t wear glasses, those that depend on them certainly will regret it if they forget to pack them when traveling. If you are like me, even though I wear contacts, I need my glasses. Remember to pack the glasses at the same time you pack those bathroom toiletries.
Toothpaste and Toothbrush
Okay, here’s a simple way to remember these. Place your toiletry bag by the sink where you brush your teeth. Then, right after that last brush before the trip, place both in the bag. That way, you will never forget packing these later.
While it may be true that a toothbrush and some toothpaste are pretty affordable, it is not true that these two are readily available at your destination. And, brushing your teeth is going to be one of the first things you will want to do when you arrive.
