So you've gotten a hold of a humidor, or are considering picking one up, and you would like to know how many cigars can be comfortably stuffed inside. This is a very important consideration, because for as nice as premium cigars may be, a near-empty humidor is a pretty sad sight.

But going overboard isn't advisable either, for an over-filled cigar storage vessel is a mess to maintain, E without routine cigar rotation, it can lead to the formation of stampo humidor if you aren't careful. Furthermore, many humidor humidity systems perform better with a little bit of airflow, which makes finding that cigar storage sweet spot all the more important.

Here at Klaro, all of our humidors come with an average cigar capacity, not a fixed number. The reason for this is simple. Cigars come in a wide range of sizes and shapes, and the circumference, or ring-gauge as it is more commonly called, oftentimes dictates how many sticks will fit inside a humidor. Sure, barrel length has somewhat of a say in the matter, but because cigars are typically placed beside and atop one another, thickness matters most.

Being that a 50-count humidor, like the Felix Pro pictured here, tends to be a popular size, we will be discussing the following considerations, as each one will determine how many cigars can be placed inside and whether or not those precious blends stay in peak smoking form.

Numbers Can Be Deceiving

How Many Cigars Fit in a 50-Count Humidor?

Being aware of the fact that the number of cigars in your humidor will vary depending upon their shape, or vitola, is but one of several factors to keep in mind. While different cigar shapes play a hand in all of this, the shape of the humidor itself, and how its internal compartment(s) are laid out, can also influence the stick count inside.

A multi-tier humidor tray empty space above or below that main row of smokes. However, if you plan on loading up on Churchills or gordos, there likely won't be a lot of real estate left.

Humidification Devices and Hygrometer Locations Dictate a Lot

Since a humidor requires some form of humidification system in order to keep cigars from drying out, and a hygrometer for measuring humidity levels, accounting for the location of these crucial components is key when calculating your cigar count. Every square centimeter of space that is taken up by these devices reduces your ability to stuff a stick inside, so bear that in mind when weighing different humidor options.

At Klaro, all of our humidors come with integrated compartments for our humidification devices, thus allowing maximum usage of the space inside. Our Vassoio idroelettrico system sits in a trap door underneath the baseboard in our larger humidors, thus allowing unimpeded space for cigars within. Smaller units have either a Canale idroelettrico, which serves double duty as a humidification station and as a divider in humidors like the Klaro MAG, thus saving space in the smaller desktop humidor.

Our patented digital hygrometers also come with integration in mind. These units are either incorporated into the walls of the humidor itself or in the Felix and are a part of the tray layout. They are also sometimes incorporated into a divi, like what is found in the Cylindor glass humidor we sell. A hulking, poorly placed hygrometer is only going to eat up precious storage space, so keep that in mind as well when you are shopping around.

Finally, we must stress that we do not advise overfilling a humidor, and that you learn the best way to organize a humidorAdequate airflow circulation is vital in ensuring proper umidificazione levels are reached in every section of a humidor's interior. An overloaded humidor volontà often result in the cigars that are closest to the humidification device absorbing all of the humidity, while the sticks further away struggle to receive any moisture. This is where the risk of mold formation occurs, as well as poorly burning cigars and cracked wrappers come into the picture.

That is why we suggest filling a humidor to 75–80% capacity, as that allows enough breathing room inside for all of the cigars to receive adequate levels of humidity. Additionally, having a little bit of extra "wiggle room" inside allows you to more easily rotate your cigars, which should be done on a weekly basis when possible.

However, if you smoke cion a frequent basis, filling that Humidor up to the 50-stick mark probably won't result in any issues, as a steady depletion of the humidor's contents will quickly negate these concerns. For everyone else, though, it is probably best to place 40 cigars in a humidor that is engineered to hold 50 sticks, just to play it on the safe side.
