The Smoke Can: An Authentic Military-Spec Ammo Box Modified Into a Humidor
Hte reason why the Klaro Smoke Can Series excels at maintaining humidity È that each ammo can is made to meet U.S. military specs. These are authentic M2A1 50 Cal and M19A1 30 Cal bullet boxes, complete with the hardcore latching systems and silicone seals that make them impervious to the elements.
Essentially, this airtight seal prevents humidity from escaping and dry air from penetrating the humidor, regardless of what time of year it might be. Granted, you must place the unit in a secure location that is well away from sunlight and heat sources, but that tends to be the case with all cigar humidors.
However, it isn't just this humidor's solid shell and snug seal that make it so damn good in the dry. Our designers have engineered each Ammo Can so that it can hold custom-built Spanish cedar baskets. Not only do these wooden trays help regulate humidity naturally by capturing and releasing the sticky stuff, but they can also receive a humidor solution wipe-down at any point to further boost humidity levels.
There's also a hidden tray underneath each basket so that a humidity pack (or two) can be installed inside as needed. Need even more humidity? Place an extra humidity pack beneath the raised bottom cedar tray, all while allowing ample room for your cigars to breathe and that humidity to circulate.
Speaking of circulation, we have found that each version of The Smoke Can does an excellent job of allowing airflow to move around within its confines. This is due to the ventilation slots that are machined into each basket, with the raised base beneath each unit allowing further airflow on all sides. Combined with Spanish cedar's tendency to naturally regulate humidity, and you've got a humidor that breathes and self-adjusts as needed with very little to zero care required.

All that being said, there is no substitute for a temperature-controlled environment. There isn't a humidor on the planet that can withstand extreme temps for months on end without some internal heating or cooling. So unless you have a self-regulating Fridgador, you are going to need to turn that heat up in winter and the thermostat down in summer if you want to maintain appropriate RH levels. Additionally, you can easily add a Klaro Hydro Channel to the interior of a Smoke Can if you need to add some extra humidity in a hurry without taking up too much real estate.
Even then, a few days without heating or cooling won't cause the hygrometer in one of our Smoke Can Humidors to fluctuate too much. After years of testing, we have seen very little to zero change in the humidity levels within these units even during the driest of times. Now, that doesn't mean you can skip adjusting the thermostat or leave your humidor outside.
